Diplo’s IG Village on Second Life
A village dedicated to Internet Governance is being hosted on Second Life’s Diplomacy Island. The village will host panels, round tables and conferences on issues related to Internet Governance. Visitors will also have the chance to consult books, articles and other materials on the subject. More...

 

Global Internet policy activities – Geneva, 2007
Geneva is hosting numerous activities related to global Internet policy on May 13-25, 2007. These include the World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) follow-up and implementation meetings, meetings organised by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), and the meeting of the Commission on Science and Technology.
The meeting that will discuss preparations for the next Internet Governance Forum (Rio de Janeiro, November 2007) is taking place on May 23-25.
DiploFoundation is participating actively in these activities. On May 21, DiploFoundation is launching “Diplomacy Island”, the virtual island on Second Life. Diplo is also organising a seminar on issues related to Internet Governance.

 

Fellowships in Geneva
Two participants from last year's Internet Governance Capacity Building Programme (IGCBP2007) have been selected for a two-month fellowship with the Secretariat of the Internet Governance Forum in Geneva. The Secretariat has been keen to support participants from least developed and African countries.
Ulemu Nyasulu from Malawi and John Walubengo from Kenya were chosen based on their participation during the Internet Governance Capacity Building Programme and their contribution to the broader IG community in their region.  They will be commencing their internships in summer 2007.
 
IG awareness – Romania
The Association for Technology and Internet (APTI) and the Strawberrynet Foundation held a workshop to raise Internet Governance awareness in Romania, supported by the ICT Policy Portal Programme of the Association for Progressive Communications. More... 

 

ICTD and e-Governance Community of Practice meeting
DiploFoundation director Jovan Kurbalija was one of the speakers at the first joint Asia-Pacific and Europe-CIS inter-regional ICTD/e-Governance Community of Practice meeting. Attending the meeting were government counterparts, representatives of the business community and civil society. The meeting was organised by the UNDP Regional Centre Bangkok (RCB), UNDP Bratislava Regional Centre (BRC) and the e-Governance Academy of Estonia. More…
 
Internet and Diplomacy – Geneva, 2007 
DiploFoundation, in collaboration with the Graduate Institute of International Studies and the Swiss Agency for Development Co-operation, recently organised a seminar on Internet and Diplomacy, which was held at the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva.

MCA Conference Malta, 2006
The Malta Communications Authority (MCA) held its annual conference on – eSecurity: building national strategies that work – from November 30 to December 1, 2006. Jovan Kurbalija, director of DiploFoundation, participated as one of the main speakers at the conference. He talked about a global perspective on e-security through the World Summit on Information Society process and beyond. More... 


SecureMED conference Malta, 2006
The SecureMED conference was held on November 16, 2006 in Malta to precede the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Parliamentary assembly 2006 Fall Meeting, which was also held in Malta on November 17-19. The conference aimed to address this vacuum in knowledge and co-ordination in the Mediterranean by discussing a number of security issues of current interest, such as critical infrastructure protection, and attempting to get together European organisations from across the security spectrum – from research institutes to large companies and public entities, to SMEs. The setting up of the European Mediterranean Security Centre (EMSeC) was also discussed with a case being presented for a Malta-based EMSeC. The Centre would provide high quality security consultancy and innovative products to EU agencies, international organisations and NGOs. More...

DiploFoundation associates met Viviane Reding, EU Commissioner for Information Society and Media, and Annette Muehlberg, the Chair of ALAC, during the reception of the At-Large Advisory Committee of ICANN in Athens.
 
DiploFoundation's IGCBP participants meet Vint Cerf – Athens, 2006
“The Internet is a mirror of society,” Google’s vice president Vinton Cerf explained during an hour-long meeting with participants and tutors of DiploFoundation’s Internet Governance Capacity Building Programme (IGCBP06).
 
DiploFoundation at Internet Governance Forum – Athens, 2006
DiploFoundation took part in various activities of the first Internet Governance Forum (IGF) meeting which was held in Athens. This event was the culmination of nine months of training for participants of the Internet Governance Capacity Building Programme (IGCBP06).  
 
ICANN Studienkreis’s 7th meeting – Prague, 2006
DiploFoundation associates Vladimir Radunovic from Serbia, Veronica Cretu from Moldova and Andrei Mikheyev from Russia made a presentation on the development status of the Internet in the Eastern European region.
 
PacINET – Samoa, 2006
Three associates from DiploFoundation attended PacINET 2006 held in Apia, Samoa from August 21-26. Gisa Fuatai Purcell generated a great deal of interest with her presentation about DiploFoundation’s capacity-building activities.
 
eGovIndia – India, 2006
Former participants of DiploFoundation’s Capacity Building Programme, Dr Nihil Agarwal, Dr Dhrupad Mathur and Priyanthi Dalwatte, attended this year’s eGov meeting in New Delhi India.
 
5th EGENI – Paris, 2006
Eva Tanner, Diplo’s project development manager, attended this year’s 5th European Global Event on Domain Names and Address Systems on Internet (EGENI).
 
GAID launched – Kuala Lumpur, 2006
DiploFoundation supported the participation of Dr Nikhil Agarwal and Fuatai Purcell in the United Nations' recent launch of Global Alliance for Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and Development (GAID) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
 
Global research agenda discussed – Germany, 2006
A total of 52 scholars from 30 countries, representing more than 40 academic institutions from around the world, met on June 15-18, 2006, in Kurort Rathen, Germany, to discuss a global research agenda on Internet Governance.
 
Internet Governance: The Way Forward – Malta, 2006
DiploFoundation’s annual international conference in Malta in February 2006 had a central theme: Internet Governance and the way forward. The aim of the conference was to contribute to the IGF process by facilitating an informed and constructive discussion. This was achieved through the participation of the major actors in the IG field and by using available knowledge, expertise, and experience as inputs to the policy process. In their discussions, participants and panelists examined:
- The experiences of various Internet bodies and other international initiatives 
- The composition and organisation of the Internet Governance Forum 
- The working methods of the Internet Governance Forum 
- Financial and logistical issues 
- Internet Governance Forum and development

DiploFoundation at WSIS – Tunis, 2005
Diplo has been contributing to the WSIS process through a gradual building of capacities among various stakeholders, via courses, publications, and awareness-building activities.
Diplo has organised training activities, workshops and seminars related to Internet Governance, throughout the WSIS process, starting from the first PrepCom held in mid-2002 to the second WSIS summit held in November 2005, involving participants from developing countries.

International Conference on Multistakeholder Diplomacy – Malta, 2005
DiploFoundation’s annual international conference held in February 2005 examined the multistakeholder approach to diplomacy in general, with a particular focus on the role and impact of various stakeholders in the WSIS process. The conference aimed to contribute to the World Summit on the Information Society and Internet Governance processes by providing policy and practical recommendations.
